This recipe was updated June 3, 2021 – recipe didn’t change, we added a how-to video.
Had to make a few adjustments because hubby cant have corn starch and doesn’t like buttermilk. Used regular milk and omitted corn starch. My sauce was a mixture of tom yum sauce and spicy honey. We can’t stop eating this! Thank you!!!
Thank you Jennifer for your amazing recipe review! So happy you got to adjust this recipe so your hubby can try it!

This bang bang chicken really reminded me of my college days as always during my lunch break it was an eating stall that made this recipe. Anyways I could make my memories fresh again all because of your post and everyone in my family also loved it a lot.
Wow, this is awesome! Love hearing stories like this, thank you for sharing!
Letting my chick marinate in the buttermilk mixture, but went ahead and made the sauce, it is really good, adding liquid pepper sauce at a time, think it’s going to be a winner, I never allow sizes of meat or vegs, etc, recommended limit me, always love playing with recipes, tastes outcomes are limitless, will post chicken cooked later

Anyone look at the nutritional info? I am thinking it’s a typo and would like to know what is the true macros for a serving. Can anyone help?
I too did a double take on the calories! Substituting Greek yogurt for the Mayo will make a huge difference. 1/2 cup of even full fat yogurt is 110 calories whereas 1/2 cup of Mayo is 771 calories. I subbed Greek yogurt and it turned out great!
Thank you for sharing, Arlene!
What would you suggest serving this dish with?
Rice with yoshida sauce, french fries, sweet potato fries or on top of salad or creamy pasta.
As when it says flip the chicken do I cook another 8 minutes or flip at 4-5 minutes?
Hi Amanda! You cook chicken for 4-5 minutes then flip and cook another 4-5 minutes. Hope this helps!
Is there any substitute you can use instead of buttermilk?
You can try mixing lemon juice with milk (homemade buttermilk)… hope this helps.
My favourite food is chicken and your bang bang chicken recipe is awesome Thank you so much.

I like this recipe, but is 213 carbs correct? That seems excessive.
Hi Debbie! I am so happy you like this recipe, as for Nutrition I am using a program that automatically does Nutrition for each recipe, I am not sure why it shows 213 carbs, it does seems excessive.
