Ingredients to make Pan Seared New York strip steak:

  • 3 New York strip Steaks I got mine from Albertsons Street Market
  • 5 garlic cloves minced
  • 1 teaspoon Kosher salt
  • 3 tablespoons grape seed oil more for pan-searing
  • 1 tablespoon fresh rosemary finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoons ground black pepper

Homemade Barbecue Sauce:

  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoon cooking sherry
  • 1 tablespoon steak sauce
  • 1 tablespoon dark brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 granulated garlic
  • salt and pepper to taste

  • Lets make Homemade Barbecue Sauce first:
  • Combine all BBQ sauce ingredients in a small sauce pan, bring it to a gentle boil, simmer for 10 minutes, stirring few times. Turn off the heat and set aside.

How to cook New York Strip Steaks in a Pan:

  • Very important step is to let your steaks stand in room temperature for 20-30 minutes before cooking.
  • In a mixing bowl combine 5 minced garlic cloves, 1 teaspoon Kosher salt, 3 tablespoons of grape seed oil, 1 tablespoon of freshly chopped rosemary and 1 teaspoon of black pepper.
  • Smear the garlicky rosemary mixture evenly all over the steaks.
  • Drizzle a little amount of grape seed oil into a cast iron skillet, preheat it on medium/high heat.
  • Add steaks to a hot pan and cook: for rare 2-3 minutes each side, for medium 4 minutes each side, and 5-6 minutes each side for well-done.
  • Remove from the skillet and let rest for 3-5 minutes.
  • Slice and serve with warm homemade BBQ Sauce and Mashed Potatoes or my favorite Creamy Scalloped Potatoes.
