Ingredients

  • 4 hoagie rolls
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 large onion thinly sliced
  • 8 oz mushrooms sliced
  • 2 tablespoon grape seed oil
  • 2 lb skirt steak
  • 1 tablespoon Montreal Steak Seasoning
  • salt & pepper to taste
  • 8 slices provolone cheese or American cheese

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 400F. Place sliced hoagie rolls on a baking sheet and place it in the oven for about 5-10 minutes to toast the bread.
  • Add 2 tablespoons of butter into the skillet and preheat to medium heat. Add 1 large thinly sliced onion and saute for 7 minutes, stirring few times.
  • Into the same skillet add 8 oz of sliced mushrooms, season with salt and pepper to taste and saute for 3 -5 minutes, stirring few times. Transfer sauteed mushrooms & onion to a plate, cover with a lid to keep warm.
  • Into the same skillet add 1 tablespoon of oil and preheat to high medium/heat. Once it's hot, working in 2 batches add steak and season with 1/2 of Montreal Steak Seasoning and salt and pepper to taste. Cook on high heat without stirring for couple minutes, then flip on the other side and saute until its browned, about couple more minutes. Transfer to a plate, cover to keep warm. Repeat this step with the second batch of steak.
  • Remove from the heat and stir in 8 slices of provolone cheese. Serve over toasted hoagie buns and add sauteed onion with mushrooms over the top. Enjoy!

Notes

  • Prep all of the ingredients before making this deliciousness.  Place flank steak into the freezer and freeze for about 30 minutes, it helps cutting steak into thin strips.
  • Chop onion and mushrooms, so you are ready to go when you start cooking.
