Why This Recipe Works
- Healthy – there's no better way to pack in a ton of nutrients into one drink than to make yourself a homemade smoothie using fresh, wholesome ingredients. Vitamins, minerals, anti-inflammatory properties, antioxidants, you name it, this recipe for spinach smoothie has got it!
- Quick and Easy – Dump, blend, pour, and sip. That's it!
- Flexible – I love to add a scoop of collagen to many of my smoothie recipe, but it's totally up to you. You can also play around with different fruit, liquid, and even the spinach, if you want to try creating your own flavors.
- Delicious – It's one thing to be healthy, but in my family, it also has to be delicious!
What's in this Spinach Smoothie Recipe
- Cucumber – If you're using a good high speed blender, there's no need to peel the cucumber. This way you'll get even more of the fiber and nutrients. If using a regular blender, you can still keep the skin on, but just know you may have more flecks of the green peel in there that you can feel in your mouth.
- Melon chunks – Honeydew melon adds a refreshing, lightly sweet flavor.
- Pineapple – Use frozen or fresh chunks, it's up to you. If using frozen, you can toss them in without thawing them.
- Baby spinach – Fresh or frozen works fine. I like to thaw the spinach and squeeze out the water so my spinach smoothie isn't too watered down.
- Water – When making a smoothie, you always need a liquid to bring everything together. Water is a great flavorless choice, but you can also use a milk of your choice or coconut water. Some people may even use juice, however personally, I try not to add too much sugar.
- Ice – Love crushed ice in my smoothie! It helps to thicken it up and keeps it nice and cold. This is especially helpful when I'm not using too much frozen fruit.
- Collagen powder – An optional protein boost. Great for hair, nails, skin, bones, you name it!

Expert Tips
Here are some tips for making a delicious and nutritious spinach green smoothie:
- Choose fresh spinach: Use fresh, young spinach leaves for a milder flavor. If you're using frozen spinach, make sure to thaw and drain it before adding it to your smoothie.
- Add a banana for creaminess: A ripe banana adds natural sweetness and gives your smoothie a creamy texture, making it more enjoyable.
- Incorporate a liquid base: Use a liquid base like almond milk, coconut water, or yogurt to help blend the ingredients smoothly. Water is also an option for a lighter drink.
- Boost nutrition with extras: Add a spoonful of nut butter, chia seeds, or flaxseeds for healthy fats and protein. These additions can help keep you full longer.
- Use ice for a chilled smoothie: If you prefer a cooler, thicker smoothie, add a handful of ice cubes to the blender. This makes it refreshing, especially on hot days.
- Consider these sweeteners: If you need a little extra sweetness, consider using honey, maple syrup, or a few dates. Just a small amount can go a long way.
Enjoy your healthy, vibrant smoothie!

Easily! You can even triple it if you want. Well, not exactly, it has to fit in the blender, but you get what I mean. Make as much of it as you want. It is best enjoyed right away, so if you plant to save it, I suggest freezing it.
Bananas are always a good idea! Whether fresh or frozen, try making a spinach pineapple banana smoothie! You could also add some avocado for some extra creaminess.
Pour them into popsicle molds. The kids love these especially in the summer. You can add a bit of honey or maple syrup for added sweetness if you'd like.
I used to pour them into ice cube trays for smaller portions when my kids were younger.
This is totally up to you. If you're avoiding dairy, stick to coconut milk, cashew milk, almond milk, or oat milk. If not, use whatever milk you have on hand.
