Smoked Salmon Avocado Toast Recipe - Crispy toast topped with creamy avocado, arugula, cherry tomatoes, smoked salmon, and as much seasoning as you want! Have this easy, nutrient-dense meal first thing in the morning to keep you satisfied for hours!
Smoked salmon avocado toast is just as easy to make as my avocado toast with egg, but instead of bacon and eggs, we’re topping ours with arugula, smoked salmon, and tomatoes. The beauty of avocado toast is there is no limit to what you can top yours with!
It’s the perfect breakfast or brunch, but it also makes a hearty lunch and even an easy breezy dinner. The next time you pick up a package of smoked salmon, make yourself a piece of avocado toast with cherry tomatoes!
Any leftover smoked salmon can be turned into cucumber appetizer bites with salmon, salmon avocado rolls, or smoked salmon sushi balls.
Why This Recipe Works
Healthy and flavorful. Salmon provides plenty of protein and Omega 3 fatty acids and both salmon and avocado are full of healthy fat. The bread you choose can deliver plenty of fiber and nutrients and of course, the veggies you add on top can give it even more.
Simple ingredients. Nothing in this recipe is complicated. Whatever you don’t have or can’t get your hands on, you can easily swap for something else! Well, maybe not the smoked salmon or avocado 😉
Avocado Toast Ingredients
- Bread: Toast 2 pieces of rustic bread like no-knead bread or sourdough bread. You can use whatever bread you prefer, just as long as it’s sturdy enough to hold up to the toppings.
- Large avocado: Pick up a ripe avocado, but one that’s not too mushy. It should have a slight give when pressed, and the end pit should fall right out.
- Lemon juice: This will help prevent the avocado from turning brown and give the entire piece of toast a burst of freshness.
- Garlic: Avocado with lemon and garlic is super flavorful.
- Salt and Pepper: To taste.
- Toppings: Baby arugula, packaged smoked salmon, sliced cherry tomatoes, red onions, olive oil, and everything bagel seasoning.
Substitutions for Avocado Toast Toppings
- I have an easy and delicious recipe for pickled red onions that I think are amazing on avocado toast. If you’re prepping the day before, definitely add these to your meal prep!
- Have some guacamole on hand? Use that instead of combining the avocado with lemon and garlic.
- You can also completely swap out the avocado spread for cream cheese. That’s always a great pairing with smoked salmon.
- Hummus is another protein-packed option.
- If arugula isn’t your thing, as it can be a bit bitter, use curly lettuce instead.
- If you love capers with your salmon, go ahead and add on a few!
- Top with a few microgreens for a nutrient boost!
- Like a little heat? Sprinkle some red pepper flakes on top.
How to Make Avocado Toast
Step 1: Toast your bread. You can either do this just before adding the toppings, or slightly early and allow it to cool for the perfect crunch.
Step 2: In a small bowl, mash the avocado. Then, add the lemon juice, minced garlic, salt, and pepper. Mix to combine and do a little taste test. Adjust the seasoning as desired.
Step 3: Spread a generous amount of the avocado mixture onto each slice of toast. Top with a handful of washed and dried greens.
Step 4: Add as much smoked salmon as you want, then add the cherry tomatoes and red onions on top.
Step 5: Drizzle with olive oil and finish with a sprinkling of Everything Sprinkle Seasoning. Enjoy two pieces or share one with someone you love!

- Best eaten right away. Once the toast is fully assembled, however, I recommend eating it right away!
- Choose the best bread for avocado toast. I always enjoy crusty bread and a seriously crispy piece of toast! I’ve been making sourdough bread a lot lately, so that’s usually what I use. You can also use whole wheat, pumpernickel, rye, Texas toast, or any gluten-free bread you want.
