Baked garlic butter shrimp is a 15-minute recipe from start to finish that results in succulent juicy shrimp with a delicious garlic butter flavor ready to be served with your favorite sides! A simple weeknight meal that is elegant enough for weekend company!

Easy garlic butter shrimp in the oven is one of the most hands-off easy methods of cooking shrimp there is! There’s no splatter from any oil and you’re not standing over the stove waiting to flip the shrimp. You just toss the shrimp around the garlic, oil, and fresh parsley and let the oven do the rest.

Quick & Easy Garlic Butter Shrimp Recipe

If you’re looking for an incredibly delicious and easy shrimp recipe this one is it. You may have seen people order a side of garlic butter to dip their shrimp, lobster, or crab in and that’s because there’s nothing quite like a buttery flavor paired with seafood.

Add a bit of garlic and you’re in heaven! This time it’s baked right into it allowing the flavors to penetrate the shrimp as it bakes.

Save some extra garlic butter for dipping later on!

    Ingredients Needed

    • Jumbo shrimp - I use jumbo shrimp just because there's more meat on each one and I find smaller shrimp is best used for things like stir-fries or when it’s a part of a recipe rather than the star of the show. To save yourself the hassle buy shrimp that is peeled and deveined already.
    • Oil - I typically use avocado oil just because I like that it’s neutral-flavored and healthy, but you can also use olive oil (also neutral and healthy), or vegetable oil.
    • Garlic - We’re using 5 cloves in this recipe because we want the garlic butter to be nice and garlicky!
    • Butter - Gets added at the end after the shrimp have baked and they’re infused with all the deliciousness.
    • Fresh parsley - Vibrant and fresh, this herb pairs well with garlic and butter and is a classic combination of ingredients.

How to Bake Shrimp in the Oven

Step 1: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F and line a baking sheet with foil.

Step 2: Grab a large bowl and to it add your shrimp, oil, garlic, salt, and pepper (to taste). Toss everything together, making sure to coat all of the shrimp (use your hands if you want!).

Step 5: Remove from the oven and brush with either melted butter or add dollops of softened butter and allow it to melt from the residual heat.

Serve with a little extra fresh parsley and enjoy!

What to Serve with Garlic Butter Shrimp

Shrimp are so versatile especially when it’s seasoned with garlic and butter which seems to go well with everything!

I make this shrimp probably 3 times a month and each time I like to switch up the sides. Here are just a few of them that my family loves:

    • Creamy Sauce & Baby Potatoes
    • Scalloped potatoes
    • Instant Pot mashed potatoes
    • Rice & Bacon
    • Fried rice
    • Cucumber Tomato Salad

Crusty bread to sop up that amazing garlic butter leftover!

    Flavor Variations

    • Garlic butter is amazing, but adding a little bit of lemon is a burst of zesty freshness that some people love. Serve with lemon wedges so people can squirt their own lemon juice.
    • You can also add lemon juice to the garlic and oil mixture so that it infuses right into the shrimp as it bakes.
    • If you like a little heat, add some red pepper flakes to your sauce mixture.

Can I leave the shrimp tails on?

You can! In fact, some people prefer to do this because it’s much easier to pick them up by hand if you plan on serving them as an appetizer or dipping them in extra garlic butter.

They are a little messy, so if you’re serving a crowd, you’ll want to use a fork to eat them in which case it’s easier to remove the tails. In a nutshell, the choice is yours!

How do I know my shrimp is done?

Shrimp starts off grey when it’s raw and pink when it’s cooked. Keep an eye on it at the 8-minute mark, depending on how many are on the tray, you may need to cook a few minutes extra.  They don’t take long at all so once they’re all pink, they’re done.

    Why is my shrimp rubbery?

This is usually a sign that they’re overcooked. They don’t take long to bake, so it’s not hard to overdo them. You want your shrimp to be tender, juicy, and not rubbery or dry, so don’t stray too far from the oven.

Keep an eye out and remove them as soon as you think they’re done.

    Can I use frozen shrimp?

Fresh or frozen raw shrimp are fine in this recipe, but make sure to thaw your frozen shrimp first. Adding them to the oven frozen will increase the bake time, and add too much liquid to the marinade, watering it down without being able to penetrate the flavor into the shrimp itself.

Great question, Jason! Looks like the program I am using to calculate the nutrients thinks that raw shrimp is super salty...
