La Paella is a traditional dish from Spain.
Easy Shrimp Paella is super easy to make and it’s infused with the most delicious flavorful taste.
The king ingredient for Easy Paella Recipe is saffron. It is one of the most rare & expensive seasonings, which usually cost around $20 for 0.03oz.
I noticed that my local Fred Meyer store sometimes has sale on seasonings and sometimes you can buy saffron for just $7.99. Saffron adds a rich flavor to Paella Dish.

I am going to try this recipe tonight for supper. Looks good. Might want to correct the typing mistake.
1 to mato cubed? The instructions clarified.
Thank you Barbara, for letting me know about this, fixing it right now.
I may have missed this but how much smoked paprika is used?
1 teaspoon of smoked paprika.
This is actually a great recipe. I added lots of white wine, an orange bell pepper, and tumeric. Also had to add garlic and onion powder. Those additions added lots of flavour!
The flavor profile here is spot on, easy recipe to follow, just awesome! Now I have ordered a real paella Pan & rice; I used a large deep skillet with Arborio & it was fine.
I think I can add 2 more thighs with a 15” pan; I did add Chiorzo. Thank you!
Thank you so much for your amazing recipe review! I am so happy you like this paella recipe:) yes, a real paella pan is the best to make paella 🥘🥘🥘 you will love it!
I brought back smoked paprika & saffron from Spain & with the tour by coach we did have paella & it was good but somewhat bland/ just me.
I am learning there is more one can do with the Pan. Anyway you’re recipe is awesome.
Thank you so much Banjo Bob! I am so happy you like my recipe! One day I too, would love to try paella in Spain and buy their spices like saffron 🙂

Great recipe please add lemon slices to list of ingredients as they definitely are worth having
Oooo thanks for the idea, Dave, lemons slices would be perfect with this dish!
Bone-in or boneless thighs?
Hi Lauren! Bone-in & skin-on chicken thighs.:)
This recipe looks so delicious and I am making it tonight for but I am adding Spanish Chorizo to the dish
Thanks for the recipe!🤗❤️
You are welcome, Tamra! 😀
My husband and I say this was the best dinner I ever made. And in the middle of a quarantine! I was googling for paella recipes that had shrimp and chicken thighs, cuz that’s what was in my freezer. I followed the recie pretty much exactly (which is difficult for me) I was worried it would burn on the bottom. It was the perfect paella crust! The proportions and flavours are perfect. The only changes I did was added one 8″ sliced sausage with the onions and 1/2 red pepper. THank you a million times for a special time during a stressful time. Peace and health to all.
You are very welcome, Miranda! So glad you and your husband liked this paella recipe!
This was such a great meal! We loved it!
So happy to hear this!
This looks incredibly good! I haven’t had traditional paella but this makes me want to asap! Love the step by step pictures too!
Thank you, Suzy!
What size paella pan?
I am sorry for a late reply, but I didn’t measure the size. The pan was good for feeding 4 people!
This recipe looks super flavorful. I bought saffron for a recipe months ago and have been looking for another to use some more of it. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you Janette! This chicken thighs and shrimp paella is super flavorful, it is worth using saffron on this seafood dish.
I couldn’t find “paella” rice but did find a short grain rice. Thankfully, I read the bag because the majority of short grain rice requires 45 minutes to cook and at least 10 minutes to steam. Something to consider when cooking this recipe. Also, add chorizo it’ll boost the flavor in a great way. This recipe had great taste just took almost twice as long to cook as I anticipated. Thanks for hooking us up!
Thank you so much Kim for sharing your cooking experience and giving a great tip about cooking with different rice I am sure it will be helpful for my readers! You are awesome and I am glad you liked this paella recipe!
I love paella and this looks fabulous! I love that you added in chicken and peas. I just made paella myself for the first time and it is such a fun dish – so many great flavors!
