Crunch Wrap Supreme Recipe - A crispy tortilla shell wrapped around a hearty filling made of juicy ground beef, queso cheese, a crispy tostada shell, sour cream, lettuce, and tomatoes. Skip the takeout line at Taco Bell and make a healthier version at home!
Making homemade crunch wraps is a much healthier way to enjoy all the delicious flavors of a Taco Bell crunch wrap. Being able to control the ingredients is what makes it supreme!
Anything that I can recreate at home, even better than the original, I make it over and over again just like I do carne asada tacos and smash tacos.
This crunch wrap supreme is officially one of my favorite copycat recipes. It’s big, juicy, and loaded with flavor and perfect for sharing if you’re feeling generous 🙂
Why You’ll Love This Recipe
- Delicious! Crispy on the outside, juicy, beefy, saucy, and cheesy on the inside.
- It’s easy to make. A crunch wrap supreme has layers but most of it is toppings!
- Tastes better than the original. You can’t get any better than juicy ground beef, seasonings you can adjust, and fresh veggies.
- It’s a complete meal in a pocket. It makes a great lunch or fun dinner idea!
Recipe Tips & Variations
- Adjust the heat. If you want to keep it mild, skip the cayenne pepper. If you like it spicy, add more to taste.
- Add some darker leafy greens. Although it may not have the same crispy texture shredded iceberg lettuce has, you could use chopped baby spinach, romaine, or mixed greens instead.
- Avoid a soggy wrap. Don’t overdo it on the oil when pan-frying the crunch wrap. Too much oil will make it soggy.
- These are best eaten right away! You can store leftovers, but they won’t have the same textures.
- Add a layer of guacamole if you want.
- Swap the ground beef for a different kind of ground meat. Ground turkey, ground chicken, or ground pork can all be used. Shredded chicken, pulled pork, or ground sausage are also great options.
Ingredients Needed
- Avocado oil: To cook the beef and a bit to cook the crunch wraps.
- Ground beef: I use lean ground beef (80/20) so that there isn’t so much excess grease to deal with.
- Aromatics and seasonings: You’ll need finely diced onion, finely chopped garlic, taco seasoning, cayenne pepper, and sea salt.
- Tortillas: This recipe makes 3 crunch wrap supremes, so you’ll need 3 large flour tortillas and 3 small flour tortillas.
- Tostada shells: These add a crunchy element each of the wraps, so you’ll need 3 in total.
- Toppings for filling: Finely diced tomato, shredded lettuce, sour cream, con queso, and grated sharp cheddar cheese.
How to Make a Crunch wrap Supreme
Step 1: Cook the beef and onion in a large skillet over medium heat until it is no longer pink. Use a wooden spoon to break the meat apart as it cooks.
Step 2: Season with taco seasoning, garlic, cayenne pepper, and salt. Mix to combine and cook for a couple of minutes until the garlic is fragrant.
Step 3: Transfer the cooked ground beef to a bowl, and wipe the skillet clean.
Step 4: Place the tortillas on a clean, flat work surface. Scoop ⅓ of the ground beef mixture into the center of each tortilla and top with con queso.
Step 5: Place a tostada over the ground beef and queso sauce. Spread sour cream over the tostada and sprinkle with lettuce and tomato. Finish that with a sprinkling of cheddar cheese on top.
Step 6: Place a small tortilla on top of the filling in the center (this is so to make sure all of the filling is covered and doesn't’ fall out). Then, fold the edges of the large tortilla over the small tortilla so they try to meet in the middle.
Step 7: Transfer the wrap to a preheated skillet with a bit of oil and cook, folded side down, for a few minutes. Flip to make sure both sides are evenly browned and crunchy.
Step 8: Cut into 4 pieces for a total of 12 servings, and enjoy!
Serve it with chips and Mexican cheese dip, homemade guacamole or mango avocado salsa on the side.
Recipe FAQs
There are 540 calories in the original crunch wrap supreme that taco bell makes. As for the calories in a copycat crunch wrap supreme made at home, it all depends on the ingredients you use.
Take note of the calories of the packaging on the queso, on the cheese, on whatever type of ground meat you use. Consider whether you’re using full-fat sour cream or low fat sour cream, and how lean your meat is. All of these things will dictate the number of calories yours ends up being.
Sure you can! Use refried beans, black beans, or pinto beans instead of meat. You can also use sautéed veggies like mushrooms and green peppers. Or, tofu crumble or any plant-based “meat” crumble.
Yes! I like to keep the cooked ground beef and cheese on one side of the tostada and the sour cream, tomatoes, and lettuce on the other side of it so the ground beef doesn’t heat up and wilt the lettuce or cook the tomatoes.
If you can’t find tostadas in your grocery store, try a layer of crunchy tortilla chips instead.
