Hot Ham and Cheese Sliders on Hawaiian Rolls - Mini sandwiches are just as much fun to make as they are to eat! These hot ham and cheese sliders are made with melty cheese and sliced ham sandwiched between a warm fluffy that gets brushed with a buttery Dijon sauce and baked to perfection!
Hawaiian ham and cheese sliders are my go-to appetizers for game days, tailgate parties, holiday parties, showers, and Sunday brunch. You can’t go wrong with a warm mini sandwich, and these ones are everyone’s favorite!
They are made with melty Swiss cheese and caramelized ham brushed with a buttery Dijon sauce and garnished with sesame seeds. I use Hawaiian rolls that come in connected sheets which makes it so much easier to prepare.
Then, once they’re baked and ready to serve, they’re easy to slice or even pull apart!
Why You’ll Love Ham and Cheese Sliders
- They’re an easy way to serve a crowd!
- Just 10 minutes of prep time.
- A great idea for using up leftover Thanksgiving or holiday ham.
- Sliders are the perfect size for an appetizer but if you have more than 1, it becomes a meal!
Cooking Tips
- You can assemble these ahead of time and bake them later on. Cover them with foil and keep them refrigerated overnight. Bake them the next day just before serving.
- Add a layer of sauteed veggies if you want. Pickled red onions, bell peppers, and mushrooms are always a great addition!
- This recipe works with any type of deli meat. Turkey, chicken, and roast beef. You can even swap the ham for Canadian bacon if preferred.
- When serving a crowd for the holidays, or a special occasion, I garnish my sliders with a single baby dill pickle on top. Holds great with a toothpick!
Ingredients Needed
- Hawaiian Sweet Rolls: I use King’s Hawaiian Sweet Rolls because they are a popular brand easily found in local grocery stores. Any brand of Hawaiian rolls will do, as will homemade dinner rolls.
- Ham: You’ll need about 1 pound of sliced ham. Use leftovers if you have them.
- Swiss Cheese: If you can get fresh slices from the deli counter rather than packaged you’ll notice the difference!
- For the glaze: Melted butter and Dijon mustard. This gets brushed over the buns to give the seeds something to stick to and ensures a nice golden finish with even more flavor.
- Sesame Seeds: Sprinkle on top for garnish.
How to Make Ham and Cheese Sliders
Step 1: Slice the rolls in half crosswise. Place the bottom half of the buns into the baking dish.
Step 2: Place the slices of cheese on top of the buns and top those with the ham slices.
Step 3: Add another layer of sliced cheese over the ham and cover with the top half of the rolls.
Step 4: In a small microwave-safe bowl, melt the butter and mix with the mustard and sesame seeds.
Step 5: Evenly drizzle the butter mixture over the rolls so all of that yummy flavor soaks into the bread.
Step 6: Cover with foil and bake in a preheated 350F oven for 30 minutes and then uncover and bake for 2 minutes until the tops are golden brown.
Serve with baked potato wedges or your favorite sides and enjoy!
What to Serve With Hot Ham and Cheese Sliders
Hawaiian ham and cheese sliders pair well with roasted potato wedges. If you’re a fan of sweet potatoes, I have a great recipe for baked sweet potato wedges too.
For parties where we have a large gathering, I love to put out an assortment of finger foods for people to nibble on. Garlic chicken wings, quinoa zucchini fritters and sausage wonton cups are always a hit!
Recipe FAQs
Swiss is my favorite, especially with ham because it gives the sweetness in the meat a great sharp and tangy balance.
However, cheddar cheese, Monterey Jack, Pepper Jack, Gruyere, and mozzarella can all be used instead. Any great melty cheese will work!
Any type of small dinner roll will work. It’s a good idea to use soft fluffy buns so that the melted butter can seep into the bread to add flavor.
If using Hawaiian rolls they usually come in sheets which is very convenient. That way you don’t have to make many single sandwiches, you just make the entire sheet at once and cut them up later.
I find baking them at 350 degrees for 30 minutes the perfect time to get the filling warm and the cheese melty and then I add 2 extra minutes uncovered to get the beautifully golden brown top buns.
