Huckleberry Lemonade Recipe - If you’re looking for a new huckleberry recipe to showcase your beautiful wild huckleberries this summer, a refreshing summery huckleberry lemonade is just the thing!

Best Huckleberry Lemonade being poured into a tall glass with ice.

This huckleberry lemonade recipe is a bit like blueberry lemonade except instead of blueberries we’re using huckleberries! We’re combining the sweet and tart huckleberry with freshly squeezed lemon juice and simple syrup to make the easiest, most refreshingly delicious drink, perfect for those hot summer days.

Of course, classic lemonade, much like fresh orange juice with carrots and ginger, or refreshing iced tea will always have a special place at the BBQ or pool party, but why not liven things up a bit with some extra flavor? This huckleberry lemonade is going to be your new summer drink this season and beyond!

    What is Huckleberry Lemonade?

To answer this, you’re going to need an answer to what is huckleberry to begin with? Well, huckleberries are little berries that look similar to blueberries. Their seeds are bigger than the minuscule seeds you’d find in blueberries, therefore when you bite into them you get a bit more texture (and fiber!). Huckleberries also have a bit more tartness to them than blueberries do.

These little gems can be used the same way most berries are used. In jams, sauces, syrups, baked goods, juice, etc.

    Where can I Forage Huckleberries?

If you’re lucky enough to live near forests, particularly in the Western States, you may find some while on your next hike. Don’t count on it, though, they’re hard to find!

Alternatively, your local farmer’s markets or the freezer section of the grocery stores and health food stores is your best bet. Frozen huckleberries can be found year round, which is great!

    Recipe Tips

    • To make this kid-friendly drink geared towards adults, serve it with a splash of vodka.
    • You can use this recipe to make lemonade with different berries for different flavors. Black berries, strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, etc.
    • For extra sweetness without any more refined sugar, you can add honey to your lemonade.
    • If you’re lucky enough to have wild blueberries leftover, use them in buttermilk pancakes, muffins, delicious banana breads, and more.

    • Frozen Wild huckleberries - If you can’t get your hands on fresh huckleberries, it’s easier to find them frozen. If you do have some fresh, wash them, dry them, then freeze them.
    • Simple syrup - This is a combination of sugar and simmering water that gets mixed until the sugar dissolves.
    • Lemon juice - I recommend using freshly squeezed lemon juice from whole lemons. The flavor is much better than if you were to use lemon juice from a bottle.
